1/15/2003: Antidepressants & Your Dental Health Adverse Dental Implications from Antidepressants Patients who receive antidepressant medication for psychiatric and other medical reasons might be at increased risk for adverse dental effects, according to a study in Januarys Journal of the American Dental Association. Dental patients receiving antidepressant medication might be at increased risk for xerostomia or dry mouth, according to the researchers. If left untreated, xerostomia could lead to rampant tooth decay, periodontal disease (gum disease), bad breath, oral yeast infection and other oral health problems.
